12 days of Christmas WOD

12 days of Christmas WOD

Binging is usual during holiday season, and so is our inspiration to create workout routines at this time of year. We’re 12 days away from Christmas. Yes, 12! That means it’s time for the famous “12 days of Christmas WOD”. To perform this WOD, you have to follow the pattern of this well-know Christmas Carrol and substitute the gifts for the exercises: On the 1st day of Christmas, my coaches gave to me, one Deadlift; On the 2nd day of Christmas my coaches gave to me, 2 Push press and 1 Deadlift; On the 3rd day of Christmas, my coaches gave to me, 3 Thrusters, 2 Push press, and 1 Deadlift; (…) So, you should add the next exercise at the end of every round, until you get to day 12. Then, the most adventurous can perform the WOD backwards. Some examples of “12 Days of Christmas WOD”:   Example no. 1: 1 C&J 2 Muscle Ups 3 Box Jumps 4 Deadlift 5 Burpees 6 Pistols 7 Hand Release Pushups 8 Toes 2 Bar 9 Wall Ball Shots 10 Chest 2 Bar pullups 11 D-Ball Slams 12 Front Squats   Example no. 2: 1 Deadlift 2 Burpees 3 Pull ups 4 Push ups 5 Toes to bar 6 Shoulder to overhead 7 Box Jumps 8 Lunges 9 Sit ups 10 Ring Rows 11 KB Swings 12 Front Squats If we choose example no. 1, the WOD will be like this: 1 C&J;  2 Muscle Ups + 1 C&J;  3 Deadlift + 2 Muscle Ups + 1 C&J; (…) 12 Front Squats + 11 D-Ball Slams + 10 Chest 2 Bar pullups + 9 Wall Ball Shots + 8 Toes 2 Bar + 7 Hand Release Pushups + 6 Pistols + 5 Burpees + 4 Deadlift + 3 Box Jumps + 2 Muscle Ups + 1 C&J Exercises are negotiable. You can draw up your own “12 Days of Christmas WOD” or accept the Crossgen’s challenge: to perform a different WOD everyday for the next 12 days! Has anyone tried this workout routine before? Which version did you...

Compression socks: what are they for?

Compression socks: what are they for?

By on Nov 18, 2014 in Exercise | 2 comments

Compression socks are getting more and more popular among sports, like long distance runners, trail runners, weightlifters, and even football players. But are athletes using them for health reasons or just because they look cool? Are these socks just a trend or do they actually bring any benefits? Can we wear without worries? In this article, we give you all the answers.   In fact, this equipment has been used in medicine for decades to improve blood flow and overall leg health, namely edema, lymphedema, poor circulation, and varicose veins.   How do compression socks work?   Considering blood flow and the function of your arteries and veins, let’s see how compression socks work by looking at this diagram:   Blood Flow and Compression Gradient Diagram Regarding the arterial system: The continuous pressure that the compression socks apply on the calves allows the relief of the arterial walls and the increase of oxygen-rich blood flow. More oxygen means enhanced performance and improved recovery. Regarding the venous system: By applying pressure on the ankle, these socks enable better venous return, as they reduce the vein diameter and push the deoxygenated blood back to the heart. Compression socks can be used at any time of the day, but especially during and after physical exercise.     What should you consider when buying a pair of compression socks?   Compression level This is one of the most important factors when choosing your compression socks. Look for socks that provide a compression gradient, with the highest pressure at the ankle.   Quality As an athlete, you are going to use your socks very often. Surely you expect to enjoy the promised benefits, but you also want your socks to not be rapidly worn out from frequent use or washing.   Material Composition Cotton is not the most recommended fabric for this type of accessory, since it increases the moisture in the shoes that causes blisters, corns and callus. It is important that the fabric is antiperspirant, so you can prevent foot odor and bacterial growth.   Visual Appearance Nowadays, you can find thousands of designs and patterns, whether for women or men. There are models for everyone’s taste and some are even custom-made....

How to improve your sports performance?

How to improve your sports performance?

Every athlete knows how important post-workout recovery is. Cross training Athletes are no exception, and after training like warriors, they deserve a god’s rest! Crossgen has designed two products that work together to provide a truly effective recovery system, that will enable athletes to face each training session with unprecedented levels of strength and physical performance. Functional training – or high-intensity interval training – quickly depletes the body’s glycogen stores, which are our main energy source. Also, these training sessions subject athlete’s joints to a significant amount of stress and tissue damage. To minimize some of the natural damage heavy training and time may cause, every athlete should take the right ingredients. This is where Recover-X and Rehab-X come in:     What will Recover-X do for you?   Recover-X contains the nutrients the athlete’s body needs the most to recover from a highly intense training session: leucine, isoleucine, valine, glutamine and minerals. The first three nutrients are part of the essential amino acids group. The presence of these amino acids is necessary for the growth process, albeit the body is unable to naturally produce them. Leucine, isoleucine, and valine are the most important essential amino acids for muscle repairing and muscle building. Glutamine is directly involved in several metabolic processes, as well as in maintaining our immune system. This amino acid prevents free radicals from proliferating, and favours the protein synthesis process, which is crucial to muscle growth. Minerals are fundamental to regulate the body’s hydration levels and the blood pH, and to support neuronal and muscle functions. When subjected to intense physical training, the body loses these important electrolytes through sweat. The more electrolytes we lose during physical exercise, the poorer our physical and mental performance will be. Take your Recovery-X shake during workout. This way, you assure the best performance throughout your WODs. After your training session, take your Beef Protein shake, as usual.     What will Rehab-X do for you?   Rehab-X is the most recent product from Crossgen and it was specially designed to give athletes strong and flexible joints. Our joints provide structural and functional support to our bones, allowing us to perform all sorts of movements, from the simplest routine activities, like...

During the weekend of July 12 and 13, Crossgen was present in Lisbon at the first stage of the Kings of WOD, the latest and most innovating fitness competition for High Intensity Training athletes, with participants from all over the world. As Golden Sponsor of the event, Crossgen represented the Viking tribe with three sponsored athletes fighting for the title, and all three of them were awarded for their efforts. The event also featured an exposition, where Crossgen presented their product line dedicated to professional High Intensity Training athletes, as well as their equipment and accessories. The competition, being the main point of attention, was made up of 6 WODs. All were designed with attention to detail not to be mere tests of strength, but also of agility, resistance and coordenation.     The WOD that determined the winners, called Heroes Graveyard by Crossgen, put the 6 best athletes in each category to the test. Carmen Bosmans couldn’t have done a better job at defending her Celtic tribe, as she was ultimately crowned Queen of WOD. Lacee Kovacs was present to represent his Barbaric tribe, but he did not compete. Could it have been an injury, or was it a strategic move of his? To the audience’s surprise, Oksana Slivenko, who ultimately...
