5 Tips for the aspiring Open athlete

5 Tips for the aspiring Open athlete

We keep saying that the beauty in this methodology  is to never know what to expect in each challenge put in front of you. The Games are the highest proof of this! We can’t predict which workouts you will have to pass through at this qualifying round, but Coach Martin Thimm gives you 5 tips you can’t miss if you’re trying to qualify.   1. Act like a professional A Ferrari can’t move an inch without gasoline! (My dad use to tell me this everyday when I was young). Human performance fuel is gained in the recovery process, and if you want a chance to perform at your top level in the Open, you better take care of your nutrition, hydration and sleep. These are the things you do outside the box. Inside the box, besides from all the hard work you do, then you better take care of your body and, do your mobility work and give your muscles stress relief (Soft foam rolling, voodoo bands etc).   2. Have a game plan Don’t Just Do It. Be prepared before you try it out. When the workout is announced you analyze it with the experience you have gained the past year. This means you look at your own strengths and weaknesses, and compare them to the workout. There are a lot of ways to prepare yourself: How many reps are there? Do you divide them into sets? How many sets? How many seconds do you rest between reps/sets? What gear to use and when to use it? Write things down, have a buddy helping you out, and pay attention to detail.   3. Visualization Visualize yourself doing the workout over and over again during the day you will give it a go. This will help you to embrace the suck (and it will suck!), and stay in the right state of mind, which is where you control your emotions, movements and gameplan. Surround yourself with people who can motivate you.   4. Fire up your engine Before the “3, 2, 1, Go!”, make sure you do a proper warm up. Most people think that this is done just by doing a few reps of all the movements included in the...

Crossgen at Rimini Wellness 2014

By on Jun 23, 2014 in Events | 0 comments

The cosy city of Rimini in the East of Italy received thousands of visitors during the weekend of May 30 until June 2. Because of the good weather? Yes, also, but mainly because everybody who is interested in sports, health, physical exercise, functional training or wellness found their way to the Rimini Wellness, one of the largest European trade fairs for fitness and wellness. During the event, many new products and services were presented, such as sports gear and accessories, supplements, fitness equipment and much more. But Rimini Wellness is primarily famous for the hundreds and hundreds of workshops, demonstrations and different activities. Visitors could participate in more traditional activities such as Zumba, Pilates, Step Aerobics, but also fairly new trends in the industry got their chance to introduce themselves to the big audience. What do you think of a class of Bokwa, Piloxing, Hot Yoga Therapy or Jazzercise?     Rimini Wellness even went a bit further by installing several pools inside, so visitors got te chance to participate in aqua classes such as Aqua Zumba, HydroBike or Aqua Pilates.  The Rimini Wellness fair really stands out from the others, because of the high level of interaction with the visitors. The different approach of the Rimini Wellness definitely had good results, because they could count with more than 200,000 visitors and 400 exhibitors from 68 different countries. This is by far the best edition in the history of this trade fair! But which method of training was the absolute eye-catcher in Rimini? That’s right, High Intensity Training! Also in Italy, this type of high intensity functional training is becoming a booming trend in the fitness industry. That’s why Crossgen could not miss the Rimini Wellness trade fair. In collaboration with Prozis, one of our business partners, we were able to give some intense demonstrations and workshops.     The Crossgen team set up demonstrations of multiple WODs at the stage, showing the visitors what doing Cross Training is really about and how intense a training can be. The brave ones could even try it out themselves with the help of our professional athletes. Tired of the workout? Need energy for the next training? No problem, Crossgen offered each...

This groundbreaking competition is going to be the First European Fitness League for High Intensity Training athletes. Crossgen is very honored to be one of the golden sponsor of this international event, and will be providing you with firsthand information. In this 1st edition, the league is divided into 3 stages. The first will take place on July 12th and 13th in Lisbon, Portugal. Two more will be realized, in respectively Spain and Italy. The Kings of WOD is based on a unique and dynamic concept. The competition takes us on a journey to ancient times when civilizations would select their best warriors to serve in their armies, by testing their physical strengths and abilities. The participating athletes are free to choose between five different tribes to represent and defend: the Romans, the Celts, the Barbarians, the Vikings and the Iberians. After the three stages, the winner will be crowned The King of WOD.     The athletes will compete for points that will be attributed at the end of each stage. After each of the stages has been completed, the best athletes in each category (Elite Male, Elite Female, Masters Male and Masters Female) as well as the best performing athletes of each tribe, will compete each other for the title of The King of WOD. Registrations are open on the website, and the prizes are certainly inspiring: there is €10,000 in prize money as well as various supplements to be won.  Several internationally renowned athletes will be joining the event, such a Camille Leblanc-Bazinet, Rasmus Wisbech, Carmen Bosmans, Riccardo Donati and Lacee Kovács. Besides participating as an athlete, you can also sign up as a volunteer or jury member on the official The Kings of WOD website. It is a unique opportunity for you to participate, be around the athletes, and see the “arena” from a different perspective. Join this revolution! What are you waiting for?
